Silent Night, Deadly Night 4: Initiation (1990)

2 1/2 Stars (out of 4)

Street Meat

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

Dropping the "killer Santa Claus" idea, this entry focuses on a cute reporter, Kim Levitt (Neith Hunter), who is constantly passed over for stories by the men in her office. She decides to cover a story — a mysterious death, seemingly by spontaneous combustion — on her own. She meets a mysterious bookstore owner (former Bond girl Maud Adams), who gives her a book on the occult. Everything leads up to a sinister ritual on Christmas Eve. While not exactly a masterpiece, this is a surprisingly progressive and passively entertaining movie, directed by cult favorite Brian Yuzna (Society, Bride of Re-Animator). The one and only Clint Howard plays a weird homeless man who, in the first scene, picks up a hamburger off the street, and exclaims "No f---ing cheese!"
