Wild Kratts: Wildest Animal Adventures (2011)

3 1/2 Stars (out of 4)

Creature Comforts

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

My son loves this super-cool kids' show, and I do too. Crisply animated, it appears to be hand-drawn with some computer finishing assistance, though the results don't look jerky or weird. The writing is sharp, incorporating all kinds of animal facts, as well as humor and sci-fi elements (the "creature power suits" are awesome). Finally, the Kratt brothers (Chris and Martin) demonstrate an unstoppable enthusiasm in their quest for knowledge. They're always very excited about the next adventure, and their energy is contagious. This is also true in the live action prologues and epilogues, all of which feature real examples of the animals in question.

PBS Kids has released a four-disc box set with twenty episodes on four discs. The four discs are labeled "Creature Adventures," "Lost at Sea," "Jungle Animals," and "Predator Power." One disc includes printable PDF activities.
