Star Wars: Clone Wars (2003)

Left to My Clone Devices

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

This 69-minute animated movie was originally broadcast as a series ofshort episodes on the Cartoon Network, then as a series of downloads onthe official website. It depicts events that take place between Attackof the Clones (2002) and the upcoming Revenge of the Sith.Unfortunately, the blocky animation is trendier than it is timeless, thewriting is nearly non-existent and the bulk of the movie consists ofsoulless, repetitive battle scenes. In other words, it's bitterlydisappointing for longtime fans that grew up on the characters thatinhabit this universe. Fans of the new movies, however, will probablyget a kick out of it. Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter's Laboratory)directed, with full permission from George Lucas and his team. Perhapsthe only other reason to look at this DVD is the great-looking teasertrailer for the final feature film, due out in May of 2005.
