Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989)

3 Stars (out of 4)

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

A man from the future (George Carlin) gives a phone booth time machine to couple of brain-dead Sam Dimas, California rockers in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves) travel all over history, collecting major figures for their high school report, including Napoleon (Terry Camilleri), Joan of Arc (Jane Wiedlin) and Billy the Kid (Dan Shor).

Reeves and Winter made the characters likable and popularized all kinds of surf-speak, like "dude," "bogus," "whoa," and many more.

In an equally funny sequel, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (1991), a futuristic villain sends evil Bill and Ted robots back to the present to destroy them and re-route future events.

The sequel rolled the dice on some even more bizarre, unbelievably nutty ideas, such as Bill and Ted playing "Twister" with Death. Both films are available in a DVD double-feature two-pack.
