Radio Days (1987)

4 Stars (out of 4)

Miracle Dial

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

One of my favorite Woody Allen movies, Radio Days (1987) is a pure nostalgic look back at Allen's youth listening to the radio, intercut with the glamorous lives of the radio stars. Another perfect mixture of laughs and heartbreak, it's one of the ones I can see over and over again. It's also one of his most technically complex works, with dozens of characters and individual setups and smooth cutting in-between. It has an incredibly relaxed, effortless rhythm. Young Seth Green plays the fictional Woody on screen, and Allen himself narrates the tale.
