Greater Adventure

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

In 1922, Dwan directed the first million-dollar picture with Robin Hood, a perfect vehicle for swashbuckler Douglas Fairbanks. The two teamed up again seven years later for this wistful farewell to the silent film, based on the Alexandre Dumas novel. The silent scenes provide some exciting moments, but because of a few sad little talking sequences that introduce the chapters, the overall tone reeks of finality and apathy.
