Vice Academy Collection (1988)

Rating: 1 1/2 Stars (out of 4)

'Vice' Told Tales

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

Buy Vice Academy Collection on DVD

Because nobody demanded it! Not one, not two, but three Vice Academy movies in one box set (there are six in all, and if the "Volume 1" printed on the front of the box is any indication, more are on the way). Basically, these movies, conceived and directed by Rick Sloane and released in 1988, 1990 and 1991, are low-rent ripoffs of the Police Academy series, if one can even possibly imagine such a thing. Scream queen Linnea Quigley (best known for playing "Trash" in The Return of the Living Dead and performing a memorable graveyard striptease) and former porn star Ginger Lynn Allen (On Golden Blonde, etc.) star as cadets who must solve cases in the real world. The movies make several lame attempts at humor and action and feature sporadic nudity. Quigley dropped out after the second film, while Allen lasted for the trilogy.

DVD Details: The most fascinating aspect of this DVD comes on disc 3: an hour-long making-of featurette. Consisting mainly of clips, it also features interviews with the girls and boasts some on-set footage. BCI Eclipse has resurrected these films, along with a couple of other 1980s "sex comedies," Weekend Pass (1984) and Jocks (1987). (The latter co-stars Christopher Lee and Richard Roundtree!)

Starring: Linnea Quigley, Ginger Lynn Allen, Karen Russell, Jayne Hamil, Ken Abraham, Stephen Steward, Jeannie Carol, Tami Bakke, Jo Brewer, Manny Serrano, Cliff Corder, Christian Barr, Mark Richardson, Stephanie Bishop, Daran Norris
