Star Wars: Clone Wars (2003)

Rating: 2 Stars (out of 4)

Left to My Clone Devices

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

Buy Star Wars: Clone Wars on DVD.

This 69-minute animated movie was originally broadcast as a series of short episodes on the Cartoon Network, then as a series of downloads on the official website. It depicts events that take place between Attack of the Clones (2002) and the upcoming Revenge of the Sith. Unfortunately, the blocky animation is trendier than it is timeless, the writing is nearly non-existent and the bulk of the movie consists of soulless, repetitive battle scenes. In other words, it's bitterly disappointing for longtime fans that grew up on the characters that inhabit this universe. Fans of the new movies, however, will probably get a kick out of it. Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter's Laboratory) directed, with full permission from George Lucas and his team. Perhaps the only other reason to look at this DVD is the great-looking teaser trailer for the final feature film, due out in May of 2005.

Starring: (voices) Corey Burton, Anthony Daniels, John Di Maggio, Nick Jameson, Tom Kane, Mat Lucas, James Arnold Taylor
Written by: Bryan Andrews, Mark Andrews, Darrick Bachman, George Lucas, Paul Rudish, Genndy Tartakovsky
Directed by: Genndy Tartakovsky
MPAA Rating: Unrated
Running Time: 69 minutes
Date: March 4, 2005
