Three Stooges: Stooges on the Run (2006)

Rating: 3 1/2 Stars (out of 4)

Buy Three Stooges: Stooges on the Run on DVD

Columbia Pictures has unearthed four more "Three Stooges" short subjects, but this time they have been restored from the original negatives and are presented in "ChromaChoice," which allows viewers to toggle back and forth between the colorized versions and the original black-and-white. The collection comes with Disorder in the Court (1936), a very familiar title since it has been in the public domain for some time and can be purchased quite cheaply. I compared an older DVD transfer of this short with the new one, and the latter wins hands down. The other shorts are: Pop Goes the Easel (1935), in which the Stooges hide out from the law in an artist's studio; Dizzy Doctors (1937), in which the Stooges attempt to get jobs in a hospital; and Calling All Curs (1939), in which the veterinarian Stooges must rescue a valuable dog. All three feature Curly, and all are among the comedy team's funniest works.

Starring: Moe Howard, Larry Fine, Curly Howard
Written by: Felix Adler, Charles Nelson, Albert Ray, Thea Goodman, Searle Kramer, Elwood Ullman
Directed by: Del Lord, Jack White, Jules White
MPAA Rating: Unrated
Running Time: 70 minutes
Date: October 2, 2006
