Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984)

3 Stars (out of 4)

Spock In on Heaven's Door

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

Spock himself (Leonard Nimoy) directed this third movie that follows immediately on the heels of Star Trek II. The recently departed Spock has left his consciousness inside Dr. "Bones" McCoy's (DeForest Kelly) head, and the crew must voyage to the off-limits Genesis planet, scoop up the newly reborn Spock, and defeat a villainous Klingon commander (Christopher Lloyd) with a nasty case of overacting. It's a bit clunky overall, but it's an essential companion piece to Part II, which remains one of the best of the series. This two-disc set (Paramount, $29.99) has it all.
