Radiohead: OK Computer - A Classic Album Under Review (2006)

Rating: 2 1/2 Stars (out of 4)

No Surprises

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

Buy Radiohead: OK Computer - A Classic Album Under Review on DVD

This hour-long documentary is a kind of making-of featurette on the classic OK Computer album from 1997. The band itself is nowhere to be seen, and there is no archival footage from the studio sessions, so it's up to experts, writers and other musicians to dissect the music, song by song. The interviewees occasionally come up with an interesting idea, such as the band's various musical, political and poetic influences. The unsurprising conclusion? It's a great record. If nothing else, however, the disc allows you to listen to it one more time, but in a brand new way. (Am I the only one who doesn't like "Fitter, Happier," that annoying Speak-and-Spell song?)

DVD Details: The DVD, from MVD (Music Video Distributors), contains lots of clips of Radiohead in concert and Radiohead videos, but no complete songs. A similar DVD on AC/DC's Back in Black was also released, and runs twice as long. MVD has also released The Rolling Stones: Under Review 1962-1966, Look at All the Love We Found - Live: A Tribute to Sublime and The Origin of the Species: Led Zeppelin.

Starring: Mark Paytress, Barney Hoskyns, Alex Ogg, Dai Griffiths, David Stubbs, Jake Kennedy, Clancy Sharp (narrator)
