The Mark of Zorro (1940)

3 1/2 Stars (out of 4)

Riding Again

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

Rouben Mamoulian's studio-era production of the famed adventure classic feels a bit rigid and stuffy compared to the more rambunctious Douglas Fairbanks version (1920) and the sexier Antonio Banderas version (1998). But with Tyrone Power in the lead, it still finds room for playful fun and some elegant sword fighting.

DVD Details: Fox Home Video re-released this classic in conjunction with the 2005 theatrical release of The Legend of Zorro. It comes with the same audio commentary track and the same A&E "Biography" episode (Tyrone Power) that were featured on the 2003 disc, but this new disc also features a colorized version of the film, as well as the restored black-and-white version.
