From the producer of The Wrong Trousers, animator Barry Purves
takes a crack at a Wallace and Gromit-type 30-minute short with
mixed results. A shabby-looking aardvark braves the big city, trying to
get a job as a drummer -- for which he has a natural talent -- in the
face of rampant species-ism. Whereas Nick Park stretched out his
celebrated shorts with a sense of space and relaxed timing, Purves tries
to do too much with too little, including a "message" that harkens back
to The Cotton Club. Extras include making-of documentaries and
commentary track.
