The Best of Whose Line Is It Anyway? (2009)

Rating: 3 1/2 Stars (out of 4)

Where the Points Don't Matter

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

Buy The Best of Whose Line Is It Anyway? on DVD

My wife and I watched "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" fairly regularly while it was on television between 1998-2006. Comedian and sitcom star Drew Carey hosted and gave out various instructions to improv masters Ryan Stiles, Colin Mochrie and Wayne Brady, as well as rotating guests like Greg Proops, Brad Sherwood, Charles Esten, Jeff Davis, Kathryn Greenwood and others. There were games with props, games in which the performers pretended to be newscasters and commentators, and drinking songs. At least once a week, we would laugh nearly to the point of suffocation. This new two-disc DVD set from Warner Home Video comes with ten "uncensored" episodes, with bits and pieces of slightly risqué material left in. The new stuff isn't necessarily that funny, but the episodes as a whole are still quite good. Guest stars include David Hasslehoff, Florence Henderson, Jerry Springer, Richard Simmons, body-builder Jane Tricker and the Loyola Marymount cheerleading squad. I was hoping for the great Robin Williams episode from 2000, but sadly it's not here. The disc also includes an hour-long, best-of special.

With: Drew Carey, Ryan Stiles, Colin Mochrie, Wayne Brady, Greg Proops, Brad Sherwood, Charles Esten, Jeff Davis, Kathryn Greenwood, Kathy Griffin
Written by: Mark Leveson, Dan Patterson, etc.
Directed by: Ron de Moraes, Arthur Forrest, etc.
MPAA Rating: Not Rated
Running Time: 216 minutes
Date: June 9, 2009
