Billy Wilder's The Seven Year Itch (1955) is one of Marilyn
Monroe's indispensable films, and perhaps her most famous work. She
plays a tempting, sexy next-door neighbor to Tom Ewell, whose wife has
just left him alone for the summer. They bond over drink, good times,
and a little Rachmaninoff, all the while Ewell resisting his natural
urges. The image of Monroe enjoying the cool blast of air over the
subway grate has become of the 20th century's most seminal. Sadly,
Wilder was forced to cut the more racy material out of the film, but a
salvaged "bathtub" sequence is available for viewing on the DVD.
