Most people hate this rambling, Robert Altman-directed comic strip movie, but I loved it as a kid and I still love it. Cartoonist Jules Feiffer wrote the screenplay, Harry Nilsson provided the wonderful songs, and Robin Williams gives a dead-on perfect interpretation of everyone's favorite Spinach-eating sailor. Best of all, no one in the history of movies has been better cast than Shelley Duvall as Olive Oyl. Paramount's new disc is letterboxed in 1-2.35, but contains no extras.
Paramount's 2026 4K release includes a Blu-ray and a digital code. It includes 5.1 and 2.0 audio mixes and optional English subtitles. The Blu-ray offers several bonuses: "Return to Sweethaven: A Look Back with Robin and the Altmans" (13:29), "The Popeye Company Players" (9:34), and photos from "Popeye's Premiere" (2:40). "The Sailor Man Medleys" allows viewers to jump to any song in the movie. A trailer is also included. Recommended.
