The Complete Pluto, Volume 2: 1947-1951 (2006)

Rating: 3 1/2 Stars (out of 4)

Pluto Plateu

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

Buy The Complete Pluto, Volume 2: 1947-1951 on DVD

Disney's new, two-disc metal box set contains more than two-dozen cartoons, including all of the "Figaro" cartoons (except one -- First Aiders, from 1944). The four most interesting shorts, Figaro & Cleo (1943), Cat Nap Pluto (1948), Cold Turkey (1951) and Plutopia (1951) have been relegated to the "From the Vault" section of the disc, which means that they contain "offensive" material. Leonard Maltin provides a disclaimer, with the caveat that it's better to understand these shorts than to censor them. Amen. The extras include a deconstruction of the great Pluto's Judgment Day (1935), which was included in Volume One.

Note: Disney has also released three other Walt Disney Treasures box sets: Walt Disney Treasures: More Silly Symphonies, Vol. 2: 1929-1938, The Hardy Boys: The Mickey Mouse Club: 1956-1957 and Your Host Walt Disney: TV Memories: 1956-1965. Reviews coming soon!

Starring: James MacDonald, etc.
Written by: Eric Gurney, Milt Schaffer, Harry Reeves, Rex Cox, etc.
Directed by: Charles A. Nichols, etc.
MPAA Rating: Unrated
Running Time: 227 minutes
Date: January 11, 2007
