Pearl of the South Pacific (1955)

3 Stars (out of 4)

'Pearl' Cam

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

An unusual South Seas adventure, Pearl of the South Pacific (1955) tells the old tale of white men invading a peaceful island looking for ancient treasure. Virginia Mayo is the only one who eventually sees the error of her ways, but other, greedier invaders die at the tentacles of a great low-budget octopus. Allan Dwan directs, one of three movies he made that year. John Alton's color cinematography feels fresh and robust.
