Piano Man
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Buy Fingers on DVD. Somehow, the Brut perfume/cologne company financed this amazing character study starring Harvey Keitel. Keitel plays a concert pianist who also works as a tough guy for his gangster father (Michael V. Gazzo). As he prepares for his big audition, he gets involved with a girl (Tisa Farrow), who in turn is involved with a violent pimp (Jim Brown). Toback, who makes his directorial debut here, eschews plot twists in favor of simply following Keitel around for a few days, observing his behavior, his obsessions, his desires and fears. It's a stunning piece of work. DVD Details: Toback provides a commentary track, and the disc comes with a short featurette interviewing both Toback and Keitel today.
