Escape to Witch Mountain (1975)

3 Stars (out of 4)

Meet Tony & Tia

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

Disney ventured into science fiction two years before it was trendy and profitable with this tale of two kids, Tony (Ike Eisenmann) and Tia (Kim Richards), who have telekinetic powers. Directed by schlockmeister John Hough (The Legend of Hell House, The Incubus), the movie looks pretty cheap, but with Ray Milland and Donald Pleasence as villains, it's still a lot of fun. Return from Witch Mountain (1978) was the first sequel, and Race to Witch Mountain followed in 2009. Disney has re-released the DVDs for 2009 with good-looking, remastered versions of the films, plus pop-up facts, cartoons, and various featurettes and a commentary track with the director and the two stars (Eisenmann and Richards). See also Return from Witch Mountain.
