The Duel at Silver Creek (1952)

3 1/2 Stars (out of 4)

What's In a Name?

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

After a gang of claim jumpers kill his pa, the Silver Kid (Audie Murphy) joins forces with marshal "Lightning" Tyrone (Stephen McNally) to catch them in The Duel at Silver Creek (1952, Universal, $14.98). One problem, a nasty femme fatale, Opal Lacy (Faith Domergue), threatens to sweep Lightning off his feet, and jealous "Dusty" Fargo (Susan Cabot) butts in. Clocking in at just 77 minutes, this quick, lean little film showcases Siegel's talents without a lot of padding. But credit should go to screenwriters Gerald Drayson Adams and Joseph Hoffman for coming up with those names! (Other characters include "Johnny Sombrero" and "Rat Face.")
