Dead Red

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

Director Roeg treads on Hitchcock territory with this Daphne Du Maurier (Rebecca, The Birds) story about a couple whose daughter has just drowned.

While living and working in Venice during the off-season, they encounter all kinds of spooky circumstances and run-ins with the occult. Roeg's purposely disjointed vision keeps you in near-constant dread -- all except for the movie's famously erotic love scene between stars Donald Sutherland and the gorgeous Julie Christie.
