Snowblind

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

Johnny Depp stars and, despite some pretty awful makeup, nails his performance as George Jung, a real-life drug lord responsible for a huge percentage of illegal drugs in America in the 1970s. Director Ted Demme turns in a bit of a flabby effort, however, using all the familiar 70s drug movie cliches. It's Depp, and co-stars Penelope Cruz, Paul Reubens, Ray Liotta, Franke Potente, and Rachel Griffiths, whose combined energy keep the film alive and moving. Cruz doesn't appear until 90 minutes in, but when she does, her truly magnificent face stops time.
