Trick (1999)

2 1/2 Stars (out of 4)

In the 'Trick' of It

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

Jim Fall's trick is a little wooden at its start, as if the characters were nervous about being watched. But once it gets going it gets by on its charm. Christian Campbell (Neve's brother) stars as Gabriel and Tori Spelling as his best friend Katherine. Gabriel meets Mark (John Paul Pitoc), a go-go dancer at a club, and the two embark on a one-night stand. But, as in Martin Scorsese's After Hours (1985), New York has other ideas for them and they can never find a place to be alone. The movie also features a drag queen (Miss Coco Peru), who gives Gabriel a bit of sage advice and who looks not terribly unlike Ms. Spelling.

With: Tori Spelling, Christian Campbell, John Paul Pitoc, Brad Beyer, Lacey Kohl
