The Harmonists (1999)
Capsule Review
by Jeffrey M. Anderson
This is a very entertaining true story about the real-life singing group, The
Comedian Harmonists. Although this German movie, directed by Joseph Vilsmaier,
contains most of the show-biz movie cliches, it does have one twist; half of the
group is Jewish, and they're living in Germany in the 1930's. The Comedian
Harmonists become world-famous, and the Nazis find themselves in a tough spot.
The movie uses original recordings by the real group and you can tell why they
are still popular in Germany today.
