Rating: 2 1/2 Stars (out of 4)

Smoke Screen

Buy 200 Cigarettes on DVD

This comedy takes place on New Year's Eve, 1981 in New York City, and has a huge cast, including: Christina Ricci, Courtney Love, Ben Affleck, Casey Affleck, Janeane Garofalo, Gaby Hoffmann, Jay Mohr, and Paul Rudd. Martha Plimpton hosts a party that they're all invited to. Ricci and Love are the standouts. Ricci plays a Long Island teenager out for an adventure in the Big City, and Love plays a woman who gives a special birthday surprise to her friend Rudd. The movie has lots of great 1980s rock music, and it wants to be a loose party movie, but half the characters are too busy complaining and the other half are saying, "you complain too much."

Starring: Ben Affleck, Casey Affleck, Dave Chappelle, Guillermo Diaz, Angela Featherstone, Janeane Garofalo, Gaby Hoffmann, Kate Hudson, Catherine Kellner, Courtney Love, Brian McCardie, Jay Mohr, Nicole Ari Parker, Martha Plimpton, Christina Ricci, Paul Rudd, Elvis Costello
Written by: Shana Larsen
Directed by: Risa Bramon Garcia
MPAA Rating: R for strong language and sexual content
Running Time: 101 minutes
Date: February 26, 1999
