Flaming Ceature

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

This captivating documentary takes a look at the infamous New York underground artist, photographer and filmmaker. It's the only place you'll find clips of his notorious masterpiece Flaming Creatures (1963), and for that alone it's worth seeing. It was the only film Smith ever completed, though he started and even screened several others. Director Mary Jordan interviews lots of talking heads, mainly cultural critics, fans and friends of Smith's, and Smith himself can be seen and heard in rare snippets.
