Caveh Zahedi's newest work, I Am a Sex Addict opens this week exclusively at San Francisco's Balboa Theater. This intermittently grueling and funny -- but always brave -- film uses actors, fictional re-creations and some home movie footage to document Caveh's struggle with sex addiction. Although it's blunt, powerful stuff, it's also quite often amusing as when Zahedi directly addresses the camera to provide some historical perspective, or when the actor waits in a bar for a prostitute he likes, only to find himself down to his last few dollars; should he wait for sex or buy another drink? A local filmmaker, Zahedi is perhaps best known for an appearance in Richard Linklater's Waking Life (2001). The famous porn star Rebecca Lord co-stars as one of Caveh's conquests.
