Austrian director Ulrich Seidl takes the old gimmick of the "hottest day of the year" and uses it to show six storylines of ugly people committing violence against women. One divorced couple continues to live in the same house and the man conspires to drive the woman crazy. Another old man forces his maid to take on attributes of his late wife so that he can celebrate his 50th anniversary. And a crazy woman who rides around in cars asking inane questions is eventually captured, raped and beaten. This hugely disturbing, disgusting movie is likely to turn on film buffs with its clever cross-cutting, but it's ultimately a pretentious waste of time.

With: Maria Hofstatter, Christine Jirku, Victor Hennemann, Georg Friedrich, Alfred Mrva, Erich Finsches, Gerti Lehner, Franziska Weiss, Rene Wanko, Claudia Martini, Victor Rathbone
