Final Destination (2000)

Rating: 3 Stars (out of 4)

Glimpses of Death

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

Buy Final Destination on DVD

Alex (Devon Sawa) dreams of an airplane crash and gets himself and his friends off the plane -- just before it actually crashes. It turns out that, perhaps, they were supposed to die after all because death itself seems to be stalking them, one by one. That's the clever setup for this highly effective chiller. The dialogue, by Glen Morgan, James Wong and Jeffrey Reddick, is, for the most part, thoughtful and the death scenes are delightfully gruesome. Ali Larter co-stars as "the cute girl." Several sequels followed, starting with Final Destination 2 in 2003. Also available on Blu-Ray.

With: Devon Sawa, Ali Larter, Kerr Smith, Kristen Cloke, Daniel Roebuck, Roger Guenveur Smith, Chad E. Donella, Seann William Scott, Tony Todd, Amanda Detmer, Brendan Fehr, Forbes Angus, Lisa Marie Caruk, Christine Chatelain, Barbara Tyson
Written by: Glen Morgan, James Wong and Jeffrey Reddick, based on a story by Jeffrey Reddick
Directed by: James Wong
MPAA Rating: R for violence and terror, and for language
Running Time: 98 minutes
Date: August 26, 2009
